Setting Up SMS: Business Verification (A2P)
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Before your practice can send text messages, U.S. mobile carriers require a one-time verification of your business. This is an industry-wide anti-spam requirement known as A2P (application-to-person messaging). Email works without it; SMS does not.
Where to do it
Go to Settings → Comms → Business Verification. You can also reach it from Comms → Admin → Messaging, where Text messaging (SMS) shows a status badge and a "Verify your practice for SMS" card whenever verification is still needed.
What the process looks like
Verification runs through a few carrier stages, shown to you as a timeline:
Business profile — your practice's legal business details.
Brand registration — your business is registered with the carriers.
Campaign registration — your messaging use case is registered and reviewed.
Approved — SMS becomes active and you can text patients.
Each stage can show pending, approved, rejected, or error states as it progresses. You submit your details once; the review happens behind the scenes.
⚠ Note: "Campaign registration" here is a carrier compliance step — not the same thing as the Campaigns feature used to run patient outreach. This step simply registers your right to send texts.
How texting is billed
Logging calls and in-office contact is always free.
Email and everyday texting are included with your Messaging subscription.
Campaigns are billed by usage, on top of the subscription (see the Campaigns section).
